Who doesn't love graphics? A simple website with a plain white background and black font is certainly easier to set up and easy to read, but graphics make a page visually appealing.
Careful - don't use too many or choose those that are too bright. They can be mighty distracting and you want to maintain interest in your page content.
There are plenty of place to find graphics for your website (backgrounds, borders, buttons and banners) and a simple search will keep you busy for hours.
